Developing Motivating Messages (LibraryU)

This course discussed the opportunities for library staff members to develop a wide variety of messages for any program or service. Three areas discussed were analyzing your audience, developing your message, and enhancing your message. These messages may be for outreach opportunities, dealing with the media, flyers, or Board Meeting presentations. The tools learned in this course are valuable in any situation where it will be necessary to clearly communicate the message to a specific audience.

  1. Dealing with the media seems like a valuable skill to learn in particular; it is important to know how to present our libraries to the public in a positive way.

  2. I am particularly interested in programming, and think this would be a good course to take. Working closely with the media, with professionalism and poise, to promote upcoming events would be a enviable sill to possess. I tend to get tongue tied in formal situations where I am speaking on behalf of another group or organization.
